On the Yolo ARES net October 25 there was a discussion of Message Handling nets. Darrin, EC, has sent a list of message handling nets:

- Norcal net 1900 Local 3630 khz cw

- Norcal net 2100 Local 3705 slow cw

- Norcal net 1930 Local 145.210- pl 100.0 stockton

- Sac Valley traffic net 2100 Local pl 110.9 Chico

Strong Earthquake at 10:15:24 AM 9/28/04
A strong earthquake occurred at 10:15:24 AM (PDT) on Tuesday, September 28, 2004. The magnitude 6.0 event occurred 11 km (7 miles) SSE of Parkfield, CA. The hypocentral depth is 8 km ( 5 miles). At this time (one hour after the mainshock) the probability of a strong and possibly damaging aftershock IN THE NEXT 7 DAYS is approximately 50 PERCENT.    9/28/2004


New monthly meeting location
Starting sept 16 we will be meeting at Lillard hall every third thursday of the month the time will be at 7:30pm. The hall is located at the west plainfield fire station on county road 95 between roads 29 and 31 (covell blvd) next to the yolo county airport. we will be posting a map on this site soon    9/8/2004

Yolo ARES net will now meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays
Responding to a request to schedule the Yolo ARES net on specific Mondays so the dates could be published, it was decided at Monday's net to reschedule the Yolo ARES net on the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings.

The next Yolo ARES net will be August 9th at 8:00PM on the W6KCS repeater- 442.025 MHz +5 MHz., P.L. in 179.9, in Vacaville, CA.    7/20/2004

From ARRL: Thanks Go to Vaca Valley Radio Club Mentor Bob Hewitt
NEWINGTON, CT, Jun 25, 2004--As a youngster, Scott Morrison became fascinated with Amateur Radio by watching his grandfather, Wilbur Morrison, W6OSD, operating his equipment in his ham shack. The younger Morrison's exposure to ham radio led him to become a US Army radio operator, but he never got his Amateur Radio license. Unfortunately, by the time Morrison left the service, his grandfather had died, leaving him without a mentor--or Elmer--to help him pursue his interest in ham radio.

Just by chance, however, he came across the ARRL Web site, and he was able to search for a club in his area. Morrison contacted the Vaca Valley Radio Club and was referred to Bob Hewitt, K6HEW. A ham since 1952, Hewitt is active in several clubs including the Vaca Valley and Trilogy Radio clubs. It wasn't long before Hewitt had Morrison attending meetings at Vaca Valley and studying the license manual. Hewitt took Morrison to an Amateur Radio license examination session at Trilogy Radio Club, where he passed the Technician license test. ...read more...    6/25/2004
