The 2008 SKYWARN Recognition Day (SRD) Event will be December 5, 2008 (0000-2400 UTC). For those who are not familiar with the event, SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League. SKYWARN Recognition Day serves to celebrate the contributions to public safety made by amateur radio operators during threatening weather. The 24 hour event involves exchanging QSO information with as many National Weather Service Stations as possible on 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 meter bands plus the 70 centimeter band using SSB, FM, AM, RTTY, CW, and PSK31. Contacts via repeaters and IRLP are also permitted. Each year the number of participating National Weather Service offices grows with almost 100 stations taking part in the 2007 event. Additional information about SRD can be found online at http://hamradio.noaa.gov
The National Weather Service in Sacramento is looking for interested individuals and/or ham clubs who would like to participate in this year's event. Operations would take place in the large parking lot behind our main building. Requirements are similar to a Field Day Event. We are looking for operators, radios, antennas, generators, outdoor shelters, etc.
If you or your ham club are available for this event, please let us know as soon as possible. Once we have compiled a list of interested parties, we will organize a local planning meeting where details can be discussed.
Feel free to forward this information to others you think may be interested. Thank you for taking the time to read this. We look forward to hearing from you in the near future and making this a great event. 11/10/2008

Davis FD ID Cards
My name is Graham with the Davis Fire Department. Thanks for your interest in the CERT program. I am temporarily the contact person for the Davis CERT program. Will you please pass this message on to all ARES members who are becoming volunteers with the City of Davis. Thanks.
Below you will find some instructions to allow all ARES members to complete their Live Scan fingerprints. This is a necessary procedure for all volunteers with the city. We tried to make this a group process but were unsuccessful. Thanks for your understanding. You will need to:
1. Call the Davis Police Department (M-F 7-6) at 747-5400 (ext. 0) to schedule your appointment. Appointment times available are: M,Th,F 7,8,or 9am and 2,3,or 4 pm. You are only given the time slot. The earlier you show up, the better number you will get as there are usually 8-10 people scheduled for each 1 hour time block.
2. Go to the City of Davis Human Resources Department at 23 Russell Blvd to pick up Live Scan application. Each member will need to mention that they are with CERT/ARES and they will get the appropriate form.
3. Take application to Davis Police Department 2600 5th St and let the receptionist know that you are there for a live scan. You need to have the form completed and have your I.D. There is NO charge.
Thanks in advance. We are looking forward to having all of you on board!!
