The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is a component of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) located at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. The NHC mission is to save lives, mitigate property loss, and improve economic efficiency by issuing the best watches, warnings, forecasts and analyses of hazardous tropical weather, and by increasing understanding of these hazards. The NHC vision is to be America's calm, clear and trusted voice in the eye of the storm and, with its partners, enable communities to be safe from tropical weather threats.
SCAN USA was formed to provide the first national alert system, called the Safe Community Alert Network, or SCAN, that allows local law enforcement and public safety agencies to send alerts to the PCs, cell phones and PDAs of their neighborhood and local residents. Integral to SCAN is the exclusive relationship the company has with the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs, or COPS.

|Northern California Earthquake Data Center
The Northern California Earthquake Data Center (NCEDC) is a joint project of the University of California Berkeley Seismological Laboratory (BSL) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The NCEDC is a long-term archive and distribution center for seismological and geodetic data for Northern and Central California and is partially supported by funding from the USGS component of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP).
