AEC Greg (KG6SJT) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Upcoming Events:
The Davis Double Century is May 21st
The Ham Swap at Natomas High School is May 22nd

New Red Cross Emergency Services Coordinator:
LaVonne (K6LAV) reported that a new Emergency Services Coordinator has been hired to replace Katie Kelsch who resigned recently. Will Chinn is also a ham and is planning to attend the May ARES meeting.

New Fire Chief and Emergency Preparedness Programs in Davis:
Bill Weisgerber is the new fire chief for the City of Davis/UC-Davis Fire Departments. He has communicated with ARES that he is in the process of reconstituting the Davis Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) and OES programs. Chief Weisgerber expressed an interest in partnering with ARES on a program, similar to the one he implemented for the Milpitas Fire Department in Santa Clara County, called S.A.F.E. (Strategic Actions for Emergencies). EC Darrin (K9RTY) will be contacting Chief Weisgerber this week to begin the dialogue.

ID Cards:
Greg (KG6SJT) and Ken (K6WLS) have prepared new identification cards for all Yolo ARES members. Contact Greg if you did not receive yours yet.

Program: “Field Day Dxpedition 2011, Yolo ARES, SSB Operation”
Gary (WA6TQJ) and Rob (N6KIX) presented this excellent program. They covered such topics as:
Field day preparation
The exchange content
Field day log instructions
Field day strategies for making the most contacts
CQ calling strategy
When to change bands

Program: “Latitude and Longitude and GPS”
Jason (KI6OBF) and Wes (WS6Z) presented this excellent program. They covered the ways that coordinates (latitude and longitude) can be written to represent the same location. They described the components of the coordinates, how to convert from one method to another, and how to calculate the distance between two coordinates.

Next Month’s Program:
Next month we plan to have a program on “Station Design and Equipment for Field Day.”

NEXT MEETNG:
The next Yolo ARES meeting will be held May 17 at 1900 hours at the Red Cross, 120 Court Street, Woodland, CA.
