Darrin (K9RTY) provided a report on the status of the Davis Fire Department call out list. Call out list is being set up. He reported that in large disaster situations Davis’ plan is to shut down fire stations 32 and 33, with all services moved to fire station 31. ARES could still operate out of stations 32 and 33, as outpost stations. Also noted that the Davis Fire Department and the UC Davis Fire Department are merging.

Briefly discussed the Woodland and Davis CERT programs, noting that both programs are essentially non-existent currently due to a lack of funding. The Sacramento CERT program is still in operation.

Greg (KG6SJT) suggested that Yolo ARES pursue a closer relationship with both Davis and Woodland hospitals. This raised the issue of how many organizations should/can ARES support. Darrin (K9RTY) will follow-up.

Ham radio swap meet is being held in Lincoln on Sept. 20th. There will also be a Labor Day Swap meet – contact W6OMF for details.

Gary (WA6TQJ) provided an update noting that the UC Davis students are having difficulty moving to their new antenna because it is in the birds’ flyway. It is now pending approval by the County Board of Supervisors.

Gary (WA6TQJ) reported on the Princess Promenade event, noting that about 600 bicyclists are expected to participate in the 60-mile event being held October 3rd (Sunday). Two slots are open for ham radio, these are bicycle mobile slots; base station slots are filled. The courses goes from Discovery Park to Folsom Dam.

Gary also reported on the Foxy Fall which is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th. Watch for communications regarding volunteer opportunities. This is a 100-mile bicycle course.

ARES members are encouraged to participate as Net Control and to give the practice message. Darin will send out another reminder to members. It was also recommended that the practice messages be limited to a maximum of about 25 words.

Ken (K6WLS) reported that the Lake County Red Cross office is being closed. The Lake County Red Cross will operate out of the Kelseyville Fire Department. Volunteers are needed to help with the move, especially if you have a truck or van. Contact Ken for details.

The next ARES meeting is scheduled for September 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Yolo County Red Cross Chapter, 120 Court Street, Woodland.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
