Yolo ARES Meeting Minutes for 7/21/2009

YOLO ARES MEETING
July 21, 2009

The Yolo ARES meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Yolo County Red Cross.

REPEATER EQUIPMENT
Darrin (KG6FJL) reported that ARES has received two repeaters (MSR2000) from the fire station. The plan is to set these up for portable use.

RADIO COURSE
Gary (WA6TQJ) reported on the completion of three-phase testing (introductory class) at UC Davis. Sixteen people participated, most first timers. The program included three hours of drill. Ken (K6WLS) discussed connections, power supplies and message handling. Bill (K6KN) discussed base station and go kit equipment. Gary (WA6TQJ) will send a summary report, outline of the course, and participant list to Darrin (KG5FJL).

BAND PLAN
The Yolo ARES band plan is now complete. It has been posted on the ARES Web site. Of note, 146.9250 will be used for Davis at this time.

WALTER CRONKITE
Rick (N6KLB), provided a report submitted by Bill (K5KN) describing the history, awards, and accomplishments of recently deceased Walter Cronkite “The Most Trusted Man In America.” The report included Mr. Cronkite’s many contributions to ham radio. “And That’s The Way It Is.”

TEVIS CUP
The Western States Trail Tevis Cup will be held August 1, 2009. Voice and packet radio assistance is needed. Details are at http://www.teviscup.org/home_3.html

PACKET RADIO
Rick (N6KLB) discussed packet radio and the equipment and software needed for packet radio.

OTHER
Ken (K6WLS) is building a 40 watt amp for his K2.

ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

The next Yolo ARES meeting will be held August 18, 2009, at 1900 hours at the Yolo County Red Cross, 120 Court Street, Woodland, CA.
